Meridian Water team support Croyland Youth Centre

Members of the Taylor Woodrow team are encouraged to ‘Stand Out! Make a Difference’ by taking time out to volunteer and help the local community or a charitable cause each year. Our Meridian Water team recently came together to help residents close to their future construction site in Edmonton.

They supported the Croyland Youth Centre in Edmonton by helping to give a new lease of life to the outdoor area of their pre-school facility, which supports local children and families on the border of the Enfield regeneration project.

The opportunity was set up by Josh Spavins, Community Stakeholder Manager, and all of the advanced planning along with the management on the two-day project was led by Fabio Covelluzzi, Construction & Built Environment Apprentice. Fabio is one of four apprentices who have joined the team from the local area.

The 20-strong team included four members of the VINCI Facilities team who got involved in volunteering as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award programme. Activities included removing rubbish and weeds, cutting grassed areas, sanding and painting window frames, jet washing patios, and painting the fence and mud kitchen.

Several partners of the team got involved to show their support to help make the days a success. Galldris Services went above and beyond to provide 2 people to help on the day and they were able to carry out a number of repairs around the centre. Sunbelt Rentals kindly provided the equipment needed to carry out the work. Lee Brothers, Keyline and Civils & Utilities donated materials such as paint, PPE and small tools. Not forgetting the Plant Hire and Procurement teams within VINCI Construction UK whose contribution made the event possible.

The end result is an attractive and welcoming environment for the children’s outdoor play which will hopefully go a long way towards supporting the pre-school’s contribution for the local area.

Fabio said “It was the first time I had organised an event with this many participants, so this has helped me learn a great deal. The youth centre is in mine and my fellow apprentices’ local area, so it felt great to make a difference.”

Simon Milligan, Project Director said: “It was great to do something that makes a difference for the local Community. Croyland Youth Centre offer a fantastic service to people from Enfield and it has been rewarding to see members of the team put a lot of time and effort into planning these couple of days. Many thanks to the staff and children for their support and we look forward to working together more in the future.”
