Gloucester South West Bypass

The Gloucester South West Bypass provides a new strategic link from the M5 and Primary Route Network south of Gloucester to the A417 west of Westgate Bridge.

Our work on this phase 1 comprised:

  • 1.2km of single carriageway crossing the Severn Flood Plain
  • A bridge over the River Severn
  • A viaduct over a flood alleviation channel
  • Major viaduct refurbishment over the Cardiff to Gloucester railway line Flood relief culverts

After completion of these works, two months ahead of schedule, we moved on to phase 2 which included:

  • A new 40m long, two span ‘swing bridge’
  • A major canal diversion and new canal construction
  • 1.4km of single carriageway with a new road junction and 1km embankment
