High Speed 2 Old Oak Common Station

HS2 Main Civil Engineering Works

High Speed 2 (HS2) is a state-of-the-art high speed line critical for the UK’s low carbon transport future.

Our Balfour Beatty VINCI joint venture has been awarded the project’s two main civil engineering contracts for Area North.

These comprise of extensive earthworks, ground engineering, viaducts and tunnels along a 90 kilometre stretch between Long Itchington Wood Green tunnel in the south to the West Coast Main Line tie-in near Litchfield in the north, with a major junction into central Birmingham at Curzon Street. This includes a mile-long tunnel under Long Itchington Wood, which will preserve this section of ancient woodland whilst constructing the high speed line.

Up to 7,000 skilled people will be required to deliver the contract, with approximately 400 apprenticeship and graduate opportunities.

Joint venture partners: Balfour Beatty, Taylor Woodrow, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and VINCI Construction Terrassement.
