London Underground Step Free Access

London Underground Step Free Access

The London Underground Step Free Access project is part of the Mayor of London’s commitment to improve the accessibility of the London Underground network.

Working in joint venture with BAM Nuttall, we are providing step free access from street level to platform at Amersham, Osterley and Harrow on the Hill stations. The project forms a key part of the Mayor’s work to make tube travel more accessible for everyone.

Key features of the works are:

• The installation of two lifts at Amersham station with a connecting overbridge, all of which was completed in 2020

• The installation of two new lifts and connections to the existing Grade II station structure at Osterley station, which is almost complete

• The installation of four new lifts, an overbridge and two connecting bridges at Harrow on the Hill station. The image above shows the structural steelwork for the station’s new lifts and bridge structure being lifted into place, with work at this station still in progress and due to be completed later this year

At each station we are also upgrading the power supply and installing new mechanical, communications and electrical systems. This element of the project is due to be completed this year.
